Learn about sewer line excavation→Ultimate Excavation LLC is a locally owned excavation company serving Boise and the Treasure Valley. Tanner Owens runs every excavation project himself, so the person who walks your property and writes your estimate is the same person who shows up with the crew. We take the planning part seriously, because the reality is that most problems start with a vague scope, a missed utility, or a schedule nobody stuck to. Our clients are homeowners, builders, and contractors who want clear communication, reliability, and results that hold up once the dirt is back in place.
Our team brings hands-on experience and real expertise to every job, and we take pride in precision and professionalism. We keep to our schedules, tell you what is happening along the way, and measure our success by the quality of the finished work, because everything else gets built on top of it.
Most construction jobs start with the ground, and we handle the digging, earthmoving, and sitework from the first pass to the final grade.
We clear brush, rock, and stumps, strip topsoil, and haul off material so your site is ready for the next trade. For a new house or a commercial building, that means a level, compacted pad built to the plans, with grading that sends water away from the structure. We also prep ground for landscaping, patios, and driveway extensions.
We dig foundations and basements to the depth and dimensions on your plans. Our trenching work covers water lines, sewer lines, and underground utilities, and we backfill and compact the trenches so they settle properly. If you need a septic system, we handle the excavation and installation as part of the same project, and we coordinate with the other professionals on the job so nobody is waiting on dirt.
Drainage issues usually come down to where the water is going. Our drainage solutions include regrading yards, digging swales and dry wells, setting catch basins and culverts, and building retaining walls where a slope needs one. We also do demolition and concrete breaking when an old patio, driveway, or structure has to come out before new construction starts.
Residential customers hire us for pool digs, septic systems, drainage fixes, driveways, and backyard site work, from a single excavation project at a home to several at once for a builder. Commercial clients hire us for site work, utilities, and larger earthwork projects where the schedule matters as much as the price. Either way, you get a written estimate, a clear scope, and a crew that shows up on time and treats your property with care. It is the kind of service our reviews describe.
Our service areas include Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Eagle, Kuna, Star, Middleton, Garden City, and Emmett, plus the rest of the Treasure Valley. We are based in Caldwell, and we work in the communities around us.

A backyard pool dig in Caldwell, right next to Timbercrest Golf Course. We dug to the layout, checked depth as we went and loaded the dirt out.

Another new pool for Eagle. We handled the dig and had the site ready for the pool crew.

A pool dig and backyard site prep in one job, on a Meridian property out toward Kuna.
FAQ
Addressing your questions about cost, permits, timing, and how we work. If your question is not here, call (208) 697-2429.
We offer excavation services for site preparation, land clearing, grading and leveling, foundation and basement excavation, trenching, water line and sewer line excavation, septic system installation, drainage work, demolition, concrete breaking, and hauling. If your project involves dirt work of any kind, ask us about it. These are the excavation projects we do most.
It depends on the scope, so unfortunately we can't quote a number online before we see the site. The biggest cost factors are the amount of dirt to move, the depth, soil and rock conditions, how easy it is to get equipment in, how much material has to be hauled off, and whether the job includes utilities or a septic system. We give free estimates, and we explain what each option includes so you can set a budget with real numbers.
Call (208) 697-2429 or fill out our online quote form. Tell us the address, what you want built or fixed, and any plans you have. We get bids out quickly, and we will walk you through your options so the pricing makes sense before work starts.
Look for a contractor who is registered with the State of Idaho, carries insurance, has recent reviews you can read, answers questions clearly, and puts the scope and pricing in writing. Ask who will actually be on your site, what experience the crew has with your type of project, and how they handle changes. We are an insured Idaho Registered Contractor (RCE-65836), rated 5.0 on Google from 25 reviews, and we hold an A+ BBB rating.
Small jobs like a drainage fix or a short trench move quickly, while a foundation, pool dig, or full site prep takes longer. Weather, soil, and inspections all affect the schedule. We give you a start date and a realistic timeline up front, and we tell you right away if anything changes.
Make sure we can reach the work area, move vehicles, toys, and anything you want to keep, and point out any sprinkler lines or buried items you know about. Share your plans, survey, or property lines if you have them. We will go over the rest with you before we start.
Permit requirements depend on the city or county and on the project. Grading, foundations, septic systems, and work near the road often need one. Idaho law also requires an excavation notice through Digline at least two business days before you dig so underground utilities can be marked. Utility markings show the approximate horizontal location of a line, not how deep it is, so depth still has to be confirmed before digging near them. We can tell you what your project is likely to need, and your builder or the local building department makes the final call.
Yes. We clear the lot, remove brush, rocks, and debris, strip topsoil, and grade and compact the pad so your builder or landscaper can start on solid ground.
Yes. We regrade yards, dig swales and dry wells, and install catch basins, culverts, and drain lines. Water problems usually come down to grading, soil type, or groundwater, so we look at the whole property before we recommend a fix.
The Treasure Valley sits on sediment, and the Boise River floodplain mixes sand, gravel, silt, and clay. Groundwater levels can change from one lot to the next. That affects trench walls, foundation depth, drainage, and septic design, which is why we look at the soil before we finalize a plan and a price.
We run excavators, backhoes, skid steers, and bulldozers sized for the job, plus dump trucks to haul material in and out. We follow standard trench safety practices, including keeping people clear of the machine and the trench. Safety is part of every estimate, not an extra.
We do our best to get out quickly. Call (208) 697-2429, tell us it is urgent, and we will tell you when we can be there.
Yes. We handle commercial excavation for builders, developers, and property owners, including site work, grading, trenching, and utility excavation. We work around your schedule and keep communication open so the next trade is not left waiting.
